Increasing Understanding on Air Pollution through the Knowledge and Sensitization Toolkit
Effective implementation suffers due to knowledge and awareness gaps. The Sensitisation Toolkit is a solution that meets this challenge. At A-PAG, we engage and work extensively with Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across all our interventions. Having done so, we find that middle and junior-level officials at these ULBs are crucial in ensuring project effectiveness and success. However, knowledge gaps among officials on core air pollution concepts exist. A-PAG’s toolkit was designed to address these gaps. In collaboration with experts at IIT-Delhi, we prepared a sensitisation toolkit, which serves as a primer on air pollution for middle and junior-level officials.
The 4 modules in the Sensitisation Toolkit
Split across four modules, the toolkit explains sources and measures of air pollution, city action plans, and the role of officials in policy enforcement. The toolkit was originally written in English and later adapted to Hindi. All content and relevant statistics and data are adapted to the city in which sessions are being conducted.

Information from the toolkit is delivered through classroom sessions, which are conducted with the aid of moderators from IIT-Delhi. At the end of the training sessions, we digitally share booklets summarising core learnings with all officials, for future reference.
Through these sessions, we have successfully trained approximately 1150 officials in 32 sessions across Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya.
The sensitisation toolkit is a knowledge resource produced by A-PAG, available for use by government, intermediaries, and civil society organisations, at no cost. You can access the toolkit and the digital booklet here.
